The forged, variable-thickness maraging-steel face is 9% thinner for more flexing and creates metal-wood-like bending in the transition areas (sole and top), resulting in faster ball speeds and higher max height.

Among the key advancements in the i540 iron is the inR-Air Technology. This patent-pending technology by PING relies on an air bag strategically placed behind the face inside the cavity that filters frequencies for improved sound and feel without restricting bending.
